Douglas Hornick is an American artist whose creative journey bridges the worlds of photography and painting, capturing the soul of coastal life through both lens and brush. Based in Odenton, Maryland, Douglas Hornick began his career as a fine art photographer, known for his evocative images of coastal themes from Nantucket Island to Mrytle Beach. Over time, his passion for storytelling evolved leading him to reinterpret his works of photography as paintings, breathing new life into familiar scenes.

 

Douglas Hornick’s early photography work focused on capturing the quiet dignity of lighthouses, rowboats and waterfront towns of Nantucket Island.  His compositions often printed on canvas, metal and fine art papers are praised for their painterly quality, with soft light, rich textures, and a sense of nostalgia that lingered like the sea mist.

 

Inspired by the emotional depth of his own photography, Douglas Hornick began translating select images into mixed-media paintings.
